Dancing into Monday- A Ballet Inspired Set

This was a bit of an in-prompt-tu session. Isa Earle reached out and had a new wardrobe piece that she wanted to shoot. Professional Makeup Artist Amy Lingenfelter happened to be available to work her magic to bring everything together!

Isa had a background in dance so we just had to have her bring her point shoes. Amy brought along a necklace, a jacket, and some bad ass shoes for a more fashion oriented set.

It was the middle of the day so the lighting would be a challenge. Half a block down the street there was an ally that had some nice backgrounds to shoot in. I used one Profoto B10 modified with a zoom reflector to light Isa during the shoot. We were able to get a great fashion look with crip shadows and edgy lighting.

Now time for the magic. Across the street the City of Brentwood has their City Hall building. This is probably the most interesting building in Brentwood with the repetitive patterns of arches. During this time of day the sun is pouring in one side and reflecting off the white walls, giving us a good amount of fill. I composed Isa centered in the arches and placed my Profoto B10 in the same direction as the natural light. I metered to bring down the ambient light and enough power on the strobe for a good exposure. The light was placed high and angled down to almost mimic a majestic stage light from above.

The base image was amazing as is but it needed more. In post processing I desaturated the image and added some contrast for some drama. I then added in some atmosphere and beams of light coming from camera right. The final color grade included some hints of purple to complement the yellow skirt.

Here it is! the final edit in all its glory. What do you think? Did the team nail it? Drop me a quick email or reach out on social media to let me know!
